Mohamed R. Durre works at the intersection of research, institutional leadership, and enterprise development in Somalia and the wider region. As Director of Research at Kismayo University and a PhD candidate in Leadership and Sustainable Development at the UN's University for Peace, he studies how institutions in fragile and resource-constrained environments build the capacity to endure — research that draws directly on more than a decade of experience building and advising those institutions himself. He founded and leads Wadarsan Innovations, a social enterprise that has trained and supported over 100 young entrepreneurs and helped launch more than 30 small businesses, and has advised financial institutions, government bodies, and NGOs on credit monitoring, institutional audits, and organizational capacity building. His work spans the classroom and the boardroom in equal measure: as a longtime lecturer and former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science at Kismayo University, and as a consultant who has delivered more than 40 business training programs for entrepreneurs, SMEs, and development organizations. Whether the setting is a university research agenda, a climate-resilience project, or a startup finding its first customers, his focus stays the same — helping people and institutions build something that lasts, even where the ground beneath them keeps shifting.
